Overview
The course is highly practical and focused on developing skills you can put into practice in real emergency scenarios. This course provides the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course applies to all persons who may be required to provide first aid, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Certain workplaces may require additional or specialised training, including childcare and high-risk environments. Course Outline
- Responding to an emergency situation
- Performing CPR and using a defibrillator
- Applying appropriate first aid procedures
- Practical treatment of bleeding, burns, bites & stings, poisoning, fractures, choking, shock and more
- Management of asthma and anaphylaxis including the use of an EpiPen
- Communicating details of the incident including workplace reporting
Pre-course theory may be completed online prior to attending the face to face practical, which reduces the face-to-face delivery time. Consideration is given to previous skills, knowledge and experience for students refreshing an existing or equivalent certificate.
Standard – Up to 2 hours pre-course learning + 6 hours completed face to face
Express – Up to 2 hours pre-course learning + 1 hour completed face to face
Note: The durations outlined above are the minimum course durations required to deliver the training product. Face-to-face training may be delivered over a longer duration, where required, depending on cohort needs and the delivery environment
Express course options are only available to students who have previously completed the course they are enrolling in and are undertaking the training as a refresher.
Students are required to demonstrate a sound level of proficiency in spoken and written English, which will be tested in a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Skills Assessment.
Learners undertaking refresher training must have previously completed the HLTAID011 Provide first aid.
Learners will be required to provide a copy of their expiring Statement of Attainment (or digital certificate that can be validated) on the day of their face-to-face course.
This course requires participants to respond to range of first aid emergency situations. This includes the requirement for all participants to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and a child or infant resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
This course is recommended to be updated every three years, with the HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation statement of attainment to be updated annually.
