This course is the minimum qualification any person needs to safely work near overhead powerlines.
This course offers a combination of theory and practical training to teach or re-accredit participants with the necessary knowledge and skills required to safely work near overhead powerlines for relevant state and territory regulatory authorities.

Course Outline
This course will enhance the knowledge and skills of participants who are required to operate or observe the operation of plant, hand held tools, cranes and their loads in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus.
- Understand relevant legislation
- Basic principles of electricity and understanding of the power system
- Safe Approach Distances (SAD)
- Preparation to work near overhead powerlines
- Safely carry out work near overhead powerlines
- Complete work near overhead powerlines
- Understand risks and control measures
- Incident response including CPR and use of a defibrillator
Pre-course theory may be completed online prior to attending the face to face practical, which reduces the face-to-face delivery time. Consideration is given to previous skills, knowledge and experience for students refreshing an existing or equivalent certificate.
· Pre-course theory: Approximately 2 hours.
· Standard face-to-face delivery: Up to 8 hours
For those refreshing an existing certificate: pre-course theory is not required. Learners will be required to provide a copy of their expiring Statement of Attainment (or digital certificate that can be validated) on the day of their face-to-face course.
Note: These are approximate minimum timings and may vary based on the number of students, their level of experience, and whether the theory component is completed beforehand or integrated into the face-to-face session.
There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course.
This course requires participants to have the physical ability to respond to an emergency situation where they need to maintain breathing and circulation in an adult following cardiac arrest. This includes the requirement for all participants to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
This course is recommended to be updated every 12 months.
